Behind the Congress Party symbol.

Indian National Congress Party found in 1885 emerge in the British Empire.

Behind the theory of  Congress hand symbol

When Indira Gandhi visited Hemambika temple during the late 1970’s, she was impressed with the temple and the serene surroundings, with the beautiful Western Ghats in the backdrop.

It is then that she decided to keep the famous hand symbol of Congress  from this temple’s main deity- Goddess Hemambika (the one with raised palms). She won the elections in 1980 and came back to power.

Another theory...

The Congress party symbol, also known as the "hand," has its roots in Indian history and symbolism. The hand is a symbol of protection and blessings, and is commonly used in Indian culture to signify power, strength, and goodwill.

The Congress party adopted the hand symbol in 1969, after the party split into two factions. The group led by Indira Gandhi, who later became Prime Minister of India, chose the symbol as their official emblem. The hand symbol was seen as a way to connect with the masses and convey the party's commitment to serving the people of India.

Since then, the hand symbol has become synonymous with the Congress party in India and is recognized across the country. It has been used in various forms in the party's logos, banners, and election campaigns.
